Tanja Fajon was born in Ljubljana on 9 May 1971. She graduated in journalism at the University of Ljubljana and she has a master degree in International Politics from the College of Interdisciplinary Studies, Paris (2005).
Ms. Fajon worked as a journalist and assistant editor at Radio Glas Ljubljana (1991-1995), Republika daily newspaper (1993) and RTV Slovenia (1995-2009).
She is currently vice-president of the Slovenian Socialni demokrati (SD) party.
In 2009, Ms. Fajon was elected to the European Parliament, where she is a full member of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs and of the Committee on Organised Crime, Corruption and Money Laundering and a substitute member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs. She is also vice-chair of the Delegation to the EU-Croatia Joint Parliamentary Committee and substitute member of the Delegation for relations with Albania, BIH, Serbia, Montenegro and Kosovo and was a rapporteur on the visa liberalisation process for the Western Balkans.
