EC report confirms need for strong support to Youth Guarantee

PES President Sergei Stanishev stated: “Despite the economic growth in Europe, unemployment is still very high in some countries, especially youth unemployment. The younger generation is paying the price of the austerity and the structural reforms imposed by the conservatives in Europe. That’s why we will push for more investment and a strong funding for the Youth Guarantee Porgramme”.

The report shows that we were right when we proposed the Youth Guarantee back in 2013 and when we called for its extension last year.

Sergei Stanishev said: “The Youth Guarantee needs a real increase of its budget. The current proposal of an extra €2 billion will not allow to put the Youth Guarantee on a sustainable footing. It must be made accessible and functional for all young people who need it. Our Employment and Social Ministers have made this clear and so has the European Court of Auditors. We will continue to fight for it”.
