PES Presidency: great result of the European Youth Plan Action Day
The Presidency, the day-to-day leading body of the Party of European Socialists, praised the great result of the Action Day on 16 November to promote the European Youth Plan. Hundreds of activists from all over Europe campaigned for the Youth Plan (www.youthplan.eu) to support young people in finding their career path and with their education, to improve their access to culture and to guarantee minimum living standards for children.
The PES Presidency particularly underlined its commitment to the Youth Guarantee and to the project of extending it until age 30 and re-finance it with €20BN until 2020.
The Action Day consisted of 113 events – street actions, meetings, conferences and family photos in 84 different cities all around Europe – with content being shared in parallel on Facebook and Twitter. The hashtag #Act4Youth trended in Belgium and The Netherlands.
PES President Sergei Stanishev said: “I want to thank all our activists on behalf of the PES, because they have shown great commitment and creativity in their different events. Some say that the youth is not politically engaged anymore and our activists have proven that to be wrong, especially when their future is at stake. They have also embodied the motto of Europe: ‘United in diversity’. Thank you all for your help and let us keep up the fight for the future of young Europeans”.
Actions of the Youth Plan were taken in most EU Countries plus Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina and the FYR of Macedonia, in cities like Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam, Athens, Lisbon, Madrid, Sofia and Vienna.
The PES Presidency also worked in the preparation of the PES Council to be held in Prague on 2-4 December. More than 500 PES member representatives, activists, partners and supporters from all over Europe and many international guests are expected at the forum.
