18/10/2016 Progressive European Ministers discuss European standards for trade, European responsibility on migration
The European Ministers from the Party of European Socialists discussed measures for addressing the migration challenge and remaining a strong international trade actor. The Ministers met today in Luxembourg to prepare for the October European Council.
14/10/2016 PES Council Announced at Presidency Meeting
The Party of European Socialists announced the date of its Council, to be held in Prague on 2 and 3 December this year. "We want the upcoming PES Council to become another platform for discussion among our members, activists and leaders on the future of Europe", said PES President Sergei Stanishev today, during the PES Presidency meeting in Brussels. He underlined that the European Socialist and Democrats already have started a broad discussion on the role of our political family in relaunching Europe after the Brexit.

The European Ministers from the Party of European Socialists have met in Brussels on 20th September to prepare for the General Affairs Council meeting and to follow up on the outcome of last week’s Bratislava Summit of the EU head of states.
03/08/2016 PES joins Europride Amsterdam to advocate LGBTI rights
On Friday, 5th of August, during the Europride in Amsterdam, the Party of European Socialists (PES) and the Dutch Labour Party (PvdA) will co-host a conference on building towards equal rights for LGBTI in the EU member states. The conference, called “LGBTI rights in Europe, political answers to an activist analysis” is organised by Rainbow Rose and the Dutch Roze Network together with the support of PES and the PvdA.

PES president Sergei Stanishev sent a letter of condolences and support to the leader of the SPD and Vice-Chancellor of Germany Sigmar Gabriel after the series of horrific events in Germany and in Bavaria in particular.
15/07/2016 PES European Ministers convinced that Europe needs new momentum after Brexit
European Ministers from the PES family met in Rome to discuss on priorities to be fixed at the European agenda in the aftermath of the British referendum. The meeting began with ministers signing a book of remembrance for the victims of the attack in Nice last night. Progressive ministers of European Affairs expressed their condolences to the families of the victims and their solidarity with the citizens of Nice and the people of France.

The Party of European Socialists condemns in the strongest possible terms the brutal attack in Nice. PES President Sergei Stanishev said: ”I am deeply saddened by the brutality of this attack and shocked about the number of victims. I find it very difficult to bear the incredible rawness of the images coming from Nice. My thoughts are with the victims and all those who lost a loved one. I also want to express my wishes of a rapid and full recovery to all the injured. France can count on the full solidarity of our political family”.
29/06/2016 PES welcomes the new EU Global Strategy for Foreign and Security Policy
The Party of European Socialists welcomes the new EU Global Strategy for Foreign and Security Policy presented by HR/VP Federica Mogherini. The document focuses on how to respond to the threats, including terrorism, and seize the opportunities of a more connected world. It calls for stronger defence cooperation, while also focusing on the inclusiveness of societies, on job opportunities and on the fight against inequality, both in Europe and in the World.
29/06/2016 PES condemns terrorist attack at Atatürk International Airport in the strongest possible terms
The Party of European Socialists condemns the terrorist attack at the Atatürk International Airport. PES President Sergei Stanishev said: “I condemn in the strongest possible terms the barbaric attack at the airport of Istanbul that has caused a horrible number of dead and injured. The sole responsibility lies with the perpetrators. I would like to send our condolences to the families and friends of the dead and to wish a good recovery to the injured”.
02/06/2016 PES discusses preventing radicalization at high level meeting
High level representatives of PES member parties have met in Brussels to discuss the recent terrorist attacks and develop common progressive solutions to the challenging issues of terrorism and radicalization. The participants highlighted the need for our political family to answer the citizens’ demands for security with efficient policies. The experts agreed on the vital need to strike the right balance between security measures and the respect of people’s fundamental freedoms and at the same time improve our work on tackling the root causes of terrorism.
