Marita Ulvskog was born on 4 September 1954, in Luleå, Sweden. She is a trained journalist and she worked for several years on the Journal of the Swedish Trade Union Confederation. In 1994 she became Minister for Public Administration and two years later she became Culture Minister. She was a member of the Swedish Parliament from 1998-2009, having been Secretary General of the Swedish Democratic Party from 2004-2009.
Following the 2009 European elections, she became an MEP and head of the Swedish Social Democrats delegation in the European Parliament.
Marita Ulvskog is currently one of the Vice-Presidents of the Party of European Socialists (PES).
