21/01/2021 PES supports European Parliament resolution demanding the liberation of Selahattin Demirtas
The Party of European Socialists stands behind the resolution adopted today by the European Parliament demanding the liberation of Selahattin Demirtaş – a Kurdish opposition leader who has been held in prison in Turkey since 2016. Demirtas is the former co-chair of the PES-associate pro-Kurdish party HDP (People's Democratic Party).

MEPs, representatives from PES member parties and organisations, trade unionists and civil society today endorsed a comprehensive policy document which aims to put wellbeing at the centre of society. This principle - the wellbeing of citizens - must be a guiding framework for European Union policy, the PES Social Europe Network (SEN) agreed today.

Hate speech across Europe is intensifying - often carried out by political figures and governments - and recent wins for the LGBTIQ movement are fragile: a rollback on rights and attitudes could come at any time.
26/11/2020 PES hails European Parliament resolution supporting Polish women’s rights, calls for assessment on Rule of Law
The Party of European Socialists hails the resolution approved with a broad majority by the European Parliament supporting Polish women’s sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) against the attacks from state institutions, from the PiS-led government to the judiciary. The PES believes that violations of fundamental rights are a Rule of Law issue and, as such, a matter of EU competence.
