Compromises needed at Euro Summit to find stable solution

Sergei Stanishev, President of the Party of European Socialists said: ‘I welcome the rapid reaction of European Leaders to the Greek referendum which befits the gravity of the situation.’

‘As Social Democrats we will never accept that Europe faces a stark black and white choice between senseless austerity or lack of serious reforms. Instead what we need is a fair deal which recognises both the sacrifices of the Greek people and balances that with the responsibility needed to achieve growth and jobs through progressive reforms.’

‘For the Euro Summit today to be fruitful, the trust which has been lost must be quickly restored. Both sides must show reliability and commitment to compromise. A stable solution must be found, for the future of Greece, for the future of the Eurozone, and for the future of Europe as we know it. A ‘Grexit’ is neither an option we want or need.’
