PES Family: Restarting the dialogue with Africa is important

Prime ministers and party leaders from the PES family gathered together just a few hours before the Valletta summit on migration. “The PES welcomes the restart of the European dialogue with Africa, which is actually the key element of today's summit in Malta”, President Stanishev said at the meeting.

European progressives agreed that the migration crisis is an issue not only of the countries harbouring the largest numbers of refugees or those who are at the Schengen borders, but it is an issue of the entire EU. To listen to the leaders of the countries neighbouring Syria and from all the Africa region is promising, was the initial comment before the start of the Valletta summit.

PES President Sergei Stanishev and Prime Minister of Malta and Leader of the Labour Party Joseph Muscat were hosting the meeting. The President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz, European Commissioner Neven Mimica, Prime Minister of Slovakia and Leader of SMER Robert Fico, Prime Minister of Sweden and Leader of the SAP Stefan Löfven, Prime Minister of the Czech Republic and Leader of CSSD Bohuslav Sobotka, leader of the socialist party PASOK of Greece Fofi Gennimata atended the meeting and took part in the discussions.
