PES President in Portugal for election campaign launch
The President of the Party of European Socialists (PES) Sergei Stanishev this weekend travelled to Portugal to attend the official launch of the PES Portuguese member party Partido Socialista’s election campaign. He was there to support Antonio Costa in his campaign to become the next Portuguese Prime Minister. The official launch took place at the Young European Socialist’s summer camp. He told those gathered:
“The people of Portugal have already seen their wages fall, and family and friends lose their jobs, or move away to other countries. What Portugal needs, what Europe needs, are policies that will lead to growth, and to a fair and decent jobs for all. That way, people can find jobs where they want to, and they will have hope for their future, in a socialist Portugal.”
“Despite what the right wing is trying to make you believe, there are alternative policies which lead to job creation, growth, and social fairness. Antonio Costa has built a constructive dialogue with you – and I have every faith that he will be the Prime Minister that can bring jobs, dignity and trust back in Portugal.”
The Portuguese general election will take place on 4 October 2015.
