Sánchez, Faure and Stanishev meet in Paris
Leading lights of the European socialist movement, including new Spanish prime minister Pedro Sánchez and PS France leader Olivier Faure, met with progressive leaders and activists from around Europe at a Together event in Paris on Friday.
The meeting was hosted by the French Parti Socialiste and opened by PES president Sergei Stanishev, whose opening remarks were on the potential for progressive parties to push a sustainability agenda.
Throughout the event, Pedro Sánchez was especially commended for his bold decision to allow the Aquarius, a humanitarian vessel carrying 600 migrants, to dock in Spain after it was turned away by the Italian government in June. Attendees agreed that Europe needs more leaders who are willing to step up and act in defence of humanitarian values.
