The PES is delighted to welcome Alicia Homs Ginel MEP as the new president of the Young European Socialists (YES). She was elected yesterday during the YES summer camp in Albena, Bulgaria.
PES President Sergei Stanishev, who was a guest speaker at the event, said:
“The PES congratulates and welcomes Alicia Homs as president of the YES – the PES member organisation that represents the progressive future of Europe. I am happy that a woman and a Member of the European Parliament is now at the head of the young socialists. I look forward to working with her, both in the PES and in the S&D group in the European Parliament, to fight for a more social Europe.“
Around 700 young socialists from across the EU and beyond are attending the YES Summer Camp 2019, where the 25-years old Alicia Homs was elected at a meeting of the YES bureau. The event - held under the main message “We fight for every social right” - is focused on achieving a progressive future for Europe. The PES is participating at the Camp, providing workshops and training for the next generation of European social democratic, socialist and labour politicians.
