The PES extend its full support to its Georgian sister-party Georgian Dream in backing Salome Zourabishvili to become the President of Georgia in the second round of its presidential election tomorrow (28 November).

During the last five years, the progressive government led by Georgian Dream party proved the country’s strong commitment to democracy and civil rights. The PES recognises and supports the progress Georgia has made over the last few years. The election of Salome Zourabishvili will further solidify Georgia's positions as a role model in the region and strengthen its place in the European family of nations.

PES President Sergei Stanishev said:
“Georgia is a committed partner with a strong track record on democracy, transparency and governance. As voters get ready for the second round of the presidential elections this Wednesday, I hope we can expect the same high democratic standards we saw during the first round of voting. We support Salome Zourabishvili as she campaigns for a fairer Georgia at the election tomorrow.”
