The European Ministers from the Party of European Socialists discussed measures for addressing the migration challenge and remaining a strong international trade actor. The Ministers met today in Luxembourg to prepare for the October European Council.
14/10/2016 PES Council Announced at Presidency Meeting
The Party of European Socialists announced the date of its Council, to be held in Prague on 2 and 3 December this year. "We want the upcoming PES Council to become another platform for discussion among our members, activists and leaders on the future of Europe", said PES President Sergei Stanishev today, during the PES Presidency meeting in Brussels. He underlined that the European Socialist and Democrats already have started a broad discussion on the role of our political family in relaunching Europe after the Brexit.

The Finance Ministers of the PES family called for more social and economic convergence in Europe, today in a meeting in Luxembourg. The Ministers exchanged views on measures that can promote integration and economic sustainability in the framework of the deepening of the Economic and Monetary Union.

The Party of European Socialists regrets the policy flip-flop of German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schäuble about the Financial Transaction Tax. PES President Sergei Stanishev supported the current path of a European Financial Transaction Tax through enhanced cooperation, as opposed to Schäuble’s ‘new’ idea of a Global Transaction Tax: “It is a shame that one of the leading countries of this project is now reversing course. It is totally inconsistent to strive for global unity around this matter, while complaining about an alleged lack of European unity. Let’s not put the cart before the horse”.

25/08/2016 High Level Progressive Summit in Paris: PES family united in reviving Europe
The leaders of the Party of European Socialists have continued with discussions on the future of the European Union after the ‘leave’ vote in the UK following earlier talks at a PES meeting on 29 June. The meeting took place today and was hosted by the President of France, François Hollande, at the Château de la Celle Saint Cloud, in the outskirts of Paris. At the beginning of the meeting, France’s President delivered a speech on behalf of the PES family in which he called for solidarity with the Italian people after the earthquake in Central Italy.
15/07/2016 PES European Ministers convinced that Europe needs new momentum after Brexit
European Ministers from the PES family met in Rome to discuss on priorities to be fixed at the European agenda in the aftermath of the British referendum. The meeting began with ministers signing a book of remembrance for the victims of the attack in Nice last night. Progressive ministers of European Affairs expressed their condolences to the families of the victims and their solidarity with the citizens of Nice and the people of France.
12/07/2016 PES Finance Ministers assess political and economic priorities following the British referendum
Finance Ministers from the PES family have met in Brussels prior to ECOFIN Council meeting. The Ministers discussed progressive priorities of the European Union’s economic policy following the outcome of the British referendum. The Ministers had a lively discussion on the political and economic impact of the BREXIT. They assessed different approaches on how to make progress towards strengthening the ability of the European Institutions to deliver a social European Union.
04/07/2016 In memoriam: Michel Rocard
The PES sends its PS France comrades its deepest condolences on the death of Michel Rocard. European social democracy lost one of its most prominent figures. Mr. Rocard played a major role leading the French government between 1988-91 and left a strong legacy with the adoption of the minimum income (Revenu Minimum d’Insertion, RMI). Later on he became the First Secretary of the Parti Socialiste, the first to be elected by Congress delegates.
17/06/2016 Italian Finance Minister to chair PES Finance Ministers Network
Italian Finance Minister, Pier Carlo Padoan is the new chair of the Finance Ministers Network of the Party of European Socialists. Ahead of the ECOFIN Council meeting in Luxembourg he chaired his first meeting, at which Ministers committed to continue hard working for a stable banking sector that puts citizens' needs first.
