The PES ministers in charge of gender equality called on the EU leaders and on the European Commission to truly engage in actions to tackle the growing gender inequality and to protect women against the reactionary backlash in some European countries. The ministers agreed that it is essential to put gender policies back in the centre of the European agenda, in a time where the European Union is searching for a new identity. The ministers strongly underlined that our political family should help shape it in a progressive way.

The Party of European Socialists and PES Women joined again the Korcula School, organised by the CEE Network for Gender Issues. The 5th edition of the event focuses on the Refugee and Migrant crisis, but through a gender differentiated perspective. The school took place in the Croatian city of Korcula during the weekend.

On 22 and 23 August the Progressive Alliance organised an exchange on ‘the global fight against inequality’ in Montevideo, Uruguay. 'As progressives, we have seen the world evolve at a high speed in the last couple of years, often to the detriment of the weakest in our society', says Marije Laffeber, Deputy Secretary General of the PES. 'We need a new agenda, a new global message, with equality and social justice at its core.'
