A massive cry for justice and democracy in Turkey
We strongly support Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi - CHP and their successful 450 kilometres-long March for Justice, from Ankara to Istanbul. We welcome the tens of thousands Turkish citizens extending their voice against the manipulation of the judiciary by president Erdogan. This gives Turkey hope. We support the leader of CHP, Kemal Kilicdaroglu in his brave decision to mobilise against an increasingly tyrannical rule of president Erdogan, after a period of responsible de-escalation. Around 50,000 people have been arrested and 150,000, including teachers, judges and soldiers, suspended since the aborted military coup, which the PES condemned and which has been used by the president to tighten his grip on all institutions.
Kemal Kilicdaroglu was able to attract huge crowds and members of other opposition parties, including our other associate party from Turkey, HDP. On Sunday, he told supporters he would walk the final short stretch to the rally by himself, but thousands still followed him on the route chanting: “Rights, Law, Justice”.
