PES Agriculture Ministers discuss crisis in the agriculture market and the future of CAP

PES Agriculture Ministers

Today, Agriculture Ministers belonging to the Party of European Socialists (PES) met in Brussels at the invitation of the French and Dutch Agriculture Ministers, Stéphane Le Foll and Martijn van Dam, to exchange views on the day’s EU Agriculture Council agenda, and on common long-term objectives.

Participants discussed and assessed the recent EU measures to address the crisis on the dairy, pig meat, fruit and vegetables market, and which steps to take next.

They moreover took a look ahead on a post-2020 European Common Agriculture Policy (CAP) that must take better account of global climate and food security challenges, be more effective in its greening measures, simplify rules and unburden small and medium-sized enterprises and farmers.

The meeting was attended by:
- Stéphane Le Foll, Minister of Agriculture, Agrifood and Forest, France
- Roderick Galdes, Parliamentary Secretary for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights, Malta
- Martijn van Dam, Minister for Agriculture, Netherlands
