PES President heads on a European tour to present the progressive agenda
The PES President made the first of many presentations of the European progressive’s agenda in his home town of Sofia today. Sergei Stanishev presented the agenda on growth, set by the Progressive leaders’ summit in Paris last month, as well as the PES initiative on the European Plan for Youth and the PES Programme for progressive reforms. Members of Bulgarian Parliament, local politicians, academics, opinion makers, NGO representatives and many journalists and media attended the event.
“The European Socialists and Democrats have the political will to change Europe for the better, and we as a family have the courage to lead that change. It is high time for the European Union to focus on its citizens, to focus on employment, economic growth and the sustainable economy”, said Sergei Stanishev. During the presentation he gave more details on the European Plan for Youth – a PES initiative aiming to provide more jobs, better education, child rights and tighter cultural connection between the member states. “The European Plan for Youth is an investment in the future generation of Europeans, it is an investment in the European Union itself. Socialists are sometimes accused of having good ideas on investing, but lalcking the resources for the investments. The PES now has its Programme for Progressive Reforms which includes ways of providing resources” Stanishev said.
More presentations of the European Progressive’s agenda are about to held in different European capitals in the following few months.
