PES President meets Montenegro Foreign Minister on country’s progress on EU path
PES President Poul Nyrup Rasmussen met the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro, Milan Roćen, during his visit to Brussels to attend the 3rd EU-Montenegro Stabilisation and Association Parliamentary Committee (SAPC).
President Rasmussen, commenting on the role of the PES Member Party Democratic Party of Socialists and its Foreign Affairs Minister, stated: “Montenegro has once again demonstrated its determination to progress on the EU path. The progressive coalition led by the DPS has passed crucial reforms on the seven key priorities identified by the European Commission last year. It is now time for the next step and I am confident that the EU institutions will acknowledge the tremendous work the DPS and its partner, the Social Democratic Party, are doing for the country and its citizens”.
The Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) between the EU and Montenegro entered into force on 1 May 2010. EU candidate status was granted to Montenegro on December 17, 2010. No date for accession negotiations was granted until the fulfillment of seven keys priorities. The European Commission will publish its annual Progress Reports on October 12th.
