PES deplores death of Palestinian Minister
Yesterday Palestinian Minister Ziad Abu Ein died during a protest in the West Bank, near the village of Turmusayya. The Minister was reportedly beaten by Israeli soldiers and choked on tear gas.
"We send our sincerest condolences to his family and to the people of Palestine, who lost a representative", said PES President Sergei Stanishev. "We second the call from EU High Representative Federica Mogherini for an immediate and independent investigation into his death".
The PES has visited Israel and Palestine earlier this week to reinforce its commitments to its partners and the peace process. "This could represent an impediment for the restart of the peace process we so strongly believe in", said Giacomo Filibeck, PES Deputy Secretary General, who organised the delegation, "we call on all parties involved to put an end to this vicious spiral of violence".
