PES health Ministers wary of EU Commission shift of medicine oversight from Health to Internal Market
Meeting in Milan today, Party of European Socialists (PES) Health Ministers have expressed concern at the decision by the European Commission to move its oversight for medicines from the Health to the Internal Market departments. Belgian deputy Prime Minister Laurette Onkelinx (speaking from Milan) said that when it came to medicines, economic interests should not outweigh health ones.
The change, which means the moving of medicinal products and health technologies, has also been questioned by other senior politicians in the PES family. German Member of the European Parliament, and Socialists & Democrats (S&D) coordinator for the Environment committee, Mathias Groote has said that it; “sends a bad signal about the commercialization of health”.
