Mr. Delors, widely seen as the most successful Commission President to date, issued a fulsome statement praising Schulz’s ‘deep understanding of economic and social polices’. Mr. Delors said that ‘the PES has chosen the right candidate. Martin Schulz will fight to deliver economic growth to create jobs’.
Mr. Delors’ endorsement is the latest in a series of high profile endorsements for Mr. Schulz, which in recent days have included former German Chancellor, Helmut Schmidt, former Spanish PM, Filipe Gonzalez, the economist Thomas Piketty, as well as European figures Javier Solana and Antonio Vittorino.
