PES President Stanishev and Commissioner Andriukaitis debate health agenda for young people
PES President Sergei Stanishev and EU Commissioner for Health and food Safety Vytenis Andriukaitis have discussed on a European progressive health agenda for young people, in a meeting in Strasbourg on 25th October.
In particular they agreed to address healthcare policies as a part of the PES European Youth Plan (www.youthplan.eu).
PES President Sergei Stanishev said: "Health is a priority concern for young people. The in-depth Millennial Dialogue study conducted by our foundation FEPS shows that 93% of the youth identifies healthcare as a top priority. It is our duty to address this concern, as part of our European Youth Plan and to fight for funding for a Child Guarantee, guaranteeing healthy meals at schools and afordable access to healthcare."
Stanishev added: "Reducing health inequalities is at the core of our socialist DNA. Faced with health risks for young people, such as unhealthy nutrition, lack of exercise, tobacco and alcohol abuse, stress and unhealthy housing, we support Commissioner Andriukaitis' progressive health agenda and his active involvement within our political family.”
They agreed to organise a joint conference on "a progressive health agenda for young people" in 2017.
