PES deeply saddened by Albanian earthquake and expresses its condolences with all those affected

The PES expresses its deepest sympathies to the families and friends of the dead and injured, and to the hundreds of people who have been displaced after their homes were damaged or destroyed by the earthquake.

PES President Sergei Stanishev said:

“We are deeply troubled and saddened by the human loss caused by the earthquake. Our thoughts are with the families and friends of the dead and the injured. Our political family shares in the sadness and distress felt by the Albanian people and empathises deeply with all those affected by this cruel tragedy.

“We praise the work and commitment shown by Albania’s institutions and emergency services, and the personal efforts of Prime Minister Edi Rama, who has led the country’s response to the disaster.

“The PES commends Albania’s rescue teams, who have worked tirelessly to save hundreds from the debris. We salute Albania’s neighbours – including Greece, North Macedonia, Serbia, Bulgaria and Romania – for providing aid at this time of need.”
