Today, the vote in the European Parliament on the draft report on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), prepared by Edite Estrela, S&D Portuguese MEP and PES Women executive member, has failed to be adopted and instead an alternative weak resolution put forward by the EPP and ECR was carried.

The PES, as the Party for Women, gives full priority to this issue, which remains one of the most widespread violations of women’s rights within the European Union today. In Europe, 7 women die every day from male domestic violence.
11/11/2013 PES and SOLIDAR supports Philippines Akbayan Citizens Action Party and LEARN Haiyan Typhoon relief drive
The Philippines Akbayan Citizens Action Party has called on the PES and Solidar to help in their relief drive to combat the devastation caused by Typhoon Haiyan. Speaking from Sofia, Party of European Socialists (PES) President, Sergei Stanishev, said that he had received a letter from Risa Hontiveros, Chairperson of the Akbayan Citizens Action Party. He said that; “it was essential that we mobilise to increase aid for the regions and for the lives that have been devastated by this typhoon. Sergei Stanishev, President of the Party of European Socialists (PES), today met with Israeli political leaders in the Knesset (Israeli Parliament). PES Ministers of Social Affairs and Employment gathered today with PES Economics and Finance ministers in a first-of-its-kind meeting in Luxemburg.
