Irish Labour Party welcomes Martin Schulz campaign at European election rally in Dublin

Speaking at the rally Martin Schulz complimented the Labour Party role in Ireland’s coalition government in combatting the crisis, “Ireland is moving in the right direction thanks to the strong efforts of the Labour Party. Although the unrelenting focus on job creation has begun to bear fruit, unemployment, especially youth unemployment, is still far too high. ,’ he stated, “As Commission President I will propose a new credit regime for small businesses to directly help them in recruiting young people and help the Irish authorities to jumpstart growth and create decent jobs so that citizens can really start seeing improvement in their quality of life.”

Emer Costello, Dublin’s MEP, and Eamon Gilmore introduced Schulz to the audience, expressing their full support for his campaign to become President of the European Commission. Labour MEPs elected in May will help build a majority behind Schulz in the European Parliament, in a new system which would secure him the top Brussels job in the Commission.

After his address, Martin took time to meet with Irish PES activists and Labour youth members. Tomorrow morning, Schulz will travel by train from Dublin to Belfast with Labour youth party members as well as their colleagues from the SDLP youth party in Northern Ireland. Schulz will speak at a campaign rally in Belfast with SDLP candidate Alex Attwood, and then join party members for some door-to-door canvassing in the city..
