PES President congratulates Montenegro Parliament Speaker and Party Leader  Ranko Krivokapic for steady advancement on EU membership

Poul Nyrup Rasmussen said: “In the past twelve months the Parliament of Montenegro has managed to adopt crucial reforms. There has been enormous progress on the seven key priorities set by the European Commission. The work and role of Mr Krivokapic in his capacity of Parliament Speaker and Party Leader has proved decisive in this regard and I want to congratulate him for that. Montenegro is making steady advancement on EU membership proving the determination of the progressive coalition governing the country. But even more importantly, day after day, SDP is making the difference in the life of the people of Montenegro. This is something to be proud of in the PES family.”

The Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) between the EU and Montenegro entered into force on 1 May 2010. EU candidate status was granted to Montenegro on December 17, 2010. No date for accession negotiations was granted until the fulfillment of seven keys priorities. The European Commission will publish its annual Progress Reports on October 12th.
