PES welcomes agreement for fair elections in the FYROM

We warmly welcome this long due agreement, which should lead to free and fair elections and help overcoming the institutional crises in FYROM”, PES President Sergei Stanishev said.

According to the four-party agreement– which includes our associate member party SDSM -, the government in FYROM will commit to sharing power in key institutions, in the run-up of the election, to be held on 11 December this year.

The PES continues to support the agreed roadmap towards a free, fair and truly representative election in FYR of Macedonia. “We call for a quick full implementation of the Przino agreement, in particular concerning the Special Prosecutor’s Office”, Stanishev added.

The Party of European Socialists finds necessary that the Special Prosecutor’s Office should be allowed to continue its mandate and activities without any interruption and this should dealt with before the dissolution of the Parliament.

President Sergei Stanishev added: “The Parliament must be dissolved quickly, if confidence in the agreement is to hold. Under the agreement reached last week, the deadlines are clear and there is no time to waste. We need to see a clear will from the VMRO-DPMNE to stick to the terms agreed, to help steer the country away from recent political crises and back towards its European and Euro-Atlantic path.”

“I would like to congratulate Zoran Zaev, the leader of our Macedonian associated member party SDSM, for his devotion in resolving this difficult crisis and I wish him and his party all the best for the upcoming election”.
