29/09/2011 PES demands to know if EPP condone Croatian HDZ party's refusal to allow Bosnian Government to be formed
Commenting on the continuing political stalemate, PES President Poul Nyrup Rasmussen stated that; "I am very concerned about the attitude of HDZ, a Member Party of the European Peoples Party (EPP). By maintaining such an unacceptable stand in the negotiations and blocking every compromise eleven months after the elections, they are showing their total disregard for the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the country as a whole. One must ask if the EPP is aware of the irresponsible conduct of its party?”.
28/06/2011 The PES calls for full respect of electoral results in Albania
The Party of European Socialists (PES) calls for full respect of legal and constitutional safeguards in Albania. It is deplorable that, in a democracy, electoral results are put in question. The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) should not have decided to recount the votes, as the counting process had been done under the supervision of both parties, and the victory of Edi Rama (Socialist Party of Albania, SPA) over Democratic Party (DP) candidate Lulzim Basha had been declared. Formal appeals have been filed by PES member party SPA.
24/05/2011 PES Secretary General meets SDP representatives from BiH in Brussels
(18 May, Brussels) PES Secretary General, Phillip Cordery, held talks with Damir Masic, the new Minister of Education and Science in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Sasa Magazinovic, President of the Parliamentary Group of the Social Democratic Party (SDP). The representatives gave an overview on the political situation in their country seven months after the Presidential and Parliamentary elections.

07/03/2011 PES against the withdrawal of Hatip Dicle’s mandate and other Turkish MPs
The Turkish Supreme Electoral Board decided on June 21th to take away the mandate of Hatip Dicle in the Turkey Great National Assembly. The board determined that he could not hold office while being imprisoned, whereas before he was allowed to be a candidate. Hatip Dicle is not the only candidate elected who was removed from his mandate during the last weeks.

Around 100 participants from over 29 countries gathered in Warsaw on December 3rd to sign PES Women Declaration for equal sexual and reproductive rights for all Women in Europe.
14/10/2010 Democratic Party of Moldova welcomed into PES Family
The Party of European Socialists (PES), at its Presidency meeting held in Brussels on October 14th, unanimously voted to accept the membership application of the Democratic Party of Moldova. The progressive Moldovan partner party had applied for the political affiliation earlier this year.

On September 16th 2010, PES President Poul Nyrup Rasmussen met with the recently elected CHP Turkey Chairman Mr. Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu. Discussions at the bilateral meeting focused on Turkey’s accession to the EU, the referendum on constitutional reform of September 12 2010 and increasing PES-CHP cooperation.
24/04/2010 European Action Day for a Financial Transaction Tax (FTT) big success with over 50 events across the continent
“Just like a tax of 0.05% on transactions, today’s events show that it doesn’t matter if the action is small - it all adds up“, so said Poul Nyrup Rasmussen, President of the Party of European Socialists (PES). Mr. Rasmussen was congratulating the PES activists who staged over 50 events across Europe, on Saturday 24 April, to promote growing calls for a Financial Transaction Tax (FTT).
