14/10/2016 PES Council Announced at Presidency Meeting

The Party of European Socialists announced the date of its Council, to be held in Prague on 2 and 3 December this year. "We want the upcoming PES Council to become another platform for discussion among our members, activists and leaders on the future of Europe", said PES President Sergei Stanishev today, during the PES Presidency meeting in Brussels. He underlined that the European Socialist and Democrats already have started a broad discussion on the role of our political family in relaunching Europe after the Brexit.

02/09/2016 PES welcomes appointment of Marian Lupu to run presidential election in Moldova

The Party of European Socialists welcomes the appointment of Marian Lupu of associated party PDM as a candidate to the office of President of the Republic of Moldova. The election will take place on 30 October. PES President Sergei Stanishev said: “I warmly welcome the candidacy of Marian Lupu for the presidential election. He is an experienced, progressive, pro-European leader who can soundly manage the complicated political situation in Moldova. I wish him and PDM all the best for the election”.

27/07/2016 PES congratulates U.S. Democratic Party on nominating Hillary Clinton

Hillary Clinton has been officially nominated by the Democratic Party as presidential candidate for the November U.S. elections. Clinton became the first female candidate for the position from a major political party in the U.S., herewith breaking the glass ceiling. The PES congratulates the Democratic Party with this nomination. Hillary Rodham Clinton will run on the most progressive Democratic platform so far adopted by a Convention.

The Party of European Socialists would like to express its concern about the thousands of suspensions in the military, in the police, in the justice system following the attempted coup in Turkey. The Party of European Socialists condemns last night’s attempted coup in Turkey and welcomes the fact that a democratically elected government was not overthrown by military force. The PES and both of its member parties in Turkey - the Republican People's Party (CHP) and the People’s Democratic Party (HDP) stand firmly for democracy, the rule of law and the right of the Turkish people to express their will freely.
